The Global Automotive Industry will bring many new disruptive technologies to the market over the coming decade, including autonomous vehicles. Automotive OEMs face the requirement to make dramatic improvements in fuel economy. Per recent EPA mandates, the goal is a 60% improvement by 2025. Automotive OEMs must adopt a range of new technologies, including lightweight alloys and composites, more efficient engines and advanced aerodynamics – all of which have been implemented by the aerospace industry for years. Vehicle “light weighting” is the new mantra in Detroit. The aerospace industry has a long and demonstrated history of driving new technologies to the market. Aerospace has continually pushed lighter materials including aluminum-lithium, titanium, and composites. As the automotive industry introduces aluminum in new products like the Ford F-150, materials will continue to be a major driver of production cost. Additionally, other new technologies around connected vehicles will enter the market in the next decade.

At the same time, the aerospace industry faces a seven-year backlog for new jetliners, and is increasing production at unprecedented rates to cope with demand for new, fuel-efficient aircraft. The automotive supply chain is considered world class at improving manufacturing productivity through reliability, supply chain rationalization, and cost reduction. Not surprisingly, there has been a migration of operations and supply chain executives from the automotive industry to aerospace in recent years. Aerospace executives struggle with managing an increasingly global and complex Tier I supply chain model – a challenge that the automotive industry has managed for several decades.

Both industries also face similar challenges, including passenger infotainment, carbon emissions regulation, additive manufacturing and big data/vehicle health management.

SpeedNews’ AeroAuto Conference will create synergy between these two industries by providing a forum for idea sharing, problem solving and development of best practices and bringing leading executives, and decision makers together to build the future.

AeroAuto will take place over a one day time frame and will include speeches and panels from each industry.

    • Supply chain best practices and lessons learned
    • Breakthrough technologies - including additive manufacturing/3D printing

The structure of the ACPC is primarily a networking meeting between the Airline Purchasing Representatives and Supplier Company Representatives.  The conference provides both a business and social agenda, and with this mix, everyone has the opportunity to develop relationships, as well as learn concepts that will aid them in everyday business decisions.  All the functions at the ACPC provide an atmosphere that nurtures friendships, strengthens business and gives everyone the opportunity to develop relationships.

The advantage of attending this conference for the airlines, is the ability to meet more than 700 supplier companies in one setting. An airline attendee can meet more suppliers in the four days of the conference than they would have time to see in their office in an entire year. They also have the opportunity to meet their peers from other airlines and discuss issues, which are of interest and develop relationships that may prove vital in solving everyday problems.

Suppliers have the opportunity to meet airline representatives from all over the world. They take advantage of the low conference fee and introduce their company to airlines that may be too costly to travel to. Suppliers also have the opportunity to meet other companies that might be developed as potential customers.
